While most people in Europe enjoy the sunny weather these days, some little fellows struggle to survive. For hedgehogs it becomes really difficult to find enough natural food, like worms and slugs. There is also a lack of fresh water. The British Hedgehog Preservation Society asks people to help the ground dwellers.
Placing a shallow bowl of fresh water and some meat based pet food can be a life safer during summer. That helps hedgehogs to feed themselves and their families when they cannot find natural food: especially during baby season.
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society further states that also pools can be a dangerous traps for hedgehogs. They are good swimmers but struggle to climb up steep boarders. The best is to keep the pools covered, or to provide floats and check each morning for castaways.
